ShootLocal

Innovative iPhone app we developed to address the challenge of finding unique shooting locations for photographers and filmmakers.

While working on a music video project, my business partners and I encountered a significant challenge in finding suitable shooting locations. This difficulty served as the catalyst for developing "Shoot Local," an iPhone app designed to crowdsource and share location information within communities, particularly benefiting photographers and filmmakers seeking unique locations for their projects.

Shoot Local functioned similarly to Instagram but with a focus on location-based sharing. Users could visit their preferred spots, capture a photo, provide a description, and indicate whether the location was privately owned or publicly accessible. These details were then posted to their profiles, allowing followers to view, like, and comment on these locations through their feeds. This created a social network akin to the early days of Facebook and Twitter, with the unique twist of being centered around discovering and sharing potential shooting locations.

The app quickly gained traction, amassing a diverse collection of locations spanning every continent and approximately 150 countries. Despite not being our primary source of income, as we were not professional iOS developers, Shoot Local became a significant conversation piece. It showcased our ability to leverage modern technology to address specific challenges, thereby positioning us as innovators within our industry. Through Shoot Local, we not only provided a solution to a common problem faced by content creators but also fostered a global community of users sharing and discovering hidden gems for their next shoot.
